Men with Guitars April 20, 2019

Men with Guitars has become very popular and this year people were waiting outside of Olympic Theatre Arts long before the doors opened. Our 7th annual Men with Guitars was a rousing success! We reached out to the community through social media, and the wonderful article by Diane Urbani de la Paz surely helped spread the word. We are grateful to her and to the performers: Steve Anderson and BBR—Barry Burnett, Bill Tiderman and Rudy Maxion.

Steve was new to Men with Guitars, but not new to the guitar or to Sequim. He plays along with Dawn Martin and also with The Old Sidekicks. He warmed up the audience with tunes that covered a range of emotions—from sad, to heartfelt, to silly. Some songs were well-known and folks sang the lyrics along with Steve. By intermission many stopped by the wine bar to wet their whistles, clear their throats and get ready for the second set with BBR.

Barry Burnett, Bill Tiderman and Rudy Maxion go back a long way and most people in the audience were familiar with them. This was evident when first-time MC (me) stumbled during the introductions, and the crowd filled in the info. BBR sang old favorites, and often those in the seats were louder than those on stage. It was truly a united experience.

At the end of their set, Steve Anderson joined them for a grand finale song. The crowd wasn’t satisfied with that—so they did a second song together.

As one gentleman was leaving he said, “This was as good as the breakfast!” He of course was referring to the Mexican breakfast we sponsored in March. We thank our board and those who organized and worked the event. And we thank the community for supporting us as we support the women and girls in Chiapas.

See you in the fall!
