Our annual event was held on October 28 this year. It was a beautiful autumn day, while inside the Sequim Masonic Lodge the Mujeres’ board and volunteers were cooking, decorating and readying the auction tables. By 5:30, the space was so pretty and welcoming and tantalizing food odors were wafting out of the kitchen. We couldn’t put on an event like this without all the volunteers that come help us. Our thanks go out to you.
Board members Molly Rivard and Steve Gilchrist took charge of the kitchen with their hard-working helpers, and the result was a delicious meal. Board members Cathy Van Ruhan, Martha Rudersdorf, Linda Finch and Judith Pasco arranged the auction and sales tables and set and decorated the tables. Continue reading
Linda Finch and I just returned from two weeks in San Cristóbal de Las Casas. It was a wonderful trip. Three times a year we fund a 1 ½ day workshop dedicated to the scholarship recipients. We arrived just in time to be able to attend it. This particular workshop was aimed at the girls and women who are leading the children’s programs, and focused on teaching methods and lesson planning. Here’s a photo of most of them.
We presented three new scholarships this year. Please go to “Scholarship Recipients” at the top of the page for the details and photographs of Deyssi, Alejandra and Magali.
Our newest children’s program started in the municipality of Huixtan, and Linda and I visited there. While only 4 of the 10 children were able to attend that Sunday, as 6 had another commitment, we were very impressed by the dedication of both the 3 adult teachers and the students. For more on this, please click on “Programs.” Continue reading
We are delighted to share with you our new scholarship information for the coming 2017-2018 school year. Three are at university level, nine are at the preparatory level (ages 15- 18), seven are at secondary (ages 12-15) and two are taking computer classes. Of that number, three are new to us. Wow! What a terrific evening! It was a full house for our concert last Saturday. 102 people attended.
Much gratitude goes out to the two duos who contributed time and effort to making this fundraiser a success.
Bill Tiderman and Rudy Maxion (Bill and Rudy) entertained for almost an hour with rousing sing-a-long tunes mainly from the ‘60s. It’s amazing how many of us knew almost all the lyrics! Bill and Rudy graciously supplied the sound system for our event. Continue reading

January is the time when we receive proposals for the programs for the upcoming year. All four of our existing Saturday Children’s Programs are continuing. We receive a full year plan for each of the four, submitted jointly by the scholarship recipients who are responsible for the weekly session and by Carmen, our Chiapas’ coordinator. They are impressive in their detail and scope. Continue reading
